Second Story is a performance installation that highlights the potential aesthetics of abandoned materials. During the Baseler Fasnacht(Basel annual spring carnival), artists and audiences collected confetti and recycled materials on the street and give them a second life story. Participants could draw their impression in various forms such as sculpture, graffiti, dance, music etc. The volume of artwork generated in the event could become an interactive installation that increases visitors’ awareness of trashed objects. This project aims to provoke that any waste can be transformed into a cultural and social artifact. It allows people to find new perceptions of everyday objects and to encourage sustainable behaviors.
Artists started up the event with a short improvisational performance. The artifact opened to any creative thinking. After the performance, both artists and audiences were invited to create any forms using the confetti and recycled materials. If they want, they took other’s works home.
The event has been curated by Yunhyun Park, Cooperated with Kincsö Szabo,Minji Kim,Dawn Nilo, Una Chen, Martha Toledo, Esther Stute, Generously sponsored by FHNW Masterstudio and OFFCUT Basel.
