The areas ‘in-between’ are crucial to the legibility and sustainability of a diverse and high quality environment. Often neglected or forgotten, these areas that sit outside and in- between the main developments can offer unexpected opportunities for designers to create interventions, temporary or permanent.
Liminal space is broad, overarching, multifaceted concept. It can be defined as a certain place by an architectural frame work, which can be embedded in people’s memories and experience in specific ways. This means that it is about the personal connections with where they are, when they are, and what they do. Therefore, Liminal space is a sense
of place that is not an exact science, but a creative analysis of the attributes of a place.
Based on this notion, this project is analyzing ‘Non space’ in the city as a liminal space shown in my case study as having different dimensions and design. This study enhances the space that appeals as a place to visit, to see, and to be. Using various methods that create and re-create, revise and adjust to a place, what sets that place apart from other plac- es, and what makes personal sense to be there will be examined by intangible elements.
With the idea that inspired from Japanese wind chime and African xylophone, I designed a new pass way and its landscape. The sense of transition through the big screen wall allows people having a sense of liminality and different scale of sounds from the deck let people having a interaction with their own movement and environment.
This non-space which was neglected and forgotten before will be able
to remain as an awareness space for people. Becoming new meeting, sitting and waiting point, this con- gregation will bring a new feature of interactive journey in night and day of the city.
